[[en]]Moreover, the current COVID-19 pandemic has drastically intensified the need to find sustainable solutions for displacement. Nowadays, people on the move are facing multiple crises at the same time. In overcrowded livelihoods, they often lack adequate access to hygiene and sanitation facilities in order to protect themselves and their families from the virus. In addition to that, many countries closed borders and temporarily suspended asylum requests as a response to the pandemic, making it more difficult for refugees to find support. And last but definitely not least, the unparalleled economic shock caused by the pandemic results in refugee families losing their jobs and their already meager income. [[nl]]Bovendien wordt de nood om duurzame oplossingen te vinden voor de vluchtelingenproblematiek door de huidige COVID-19 pandemie alleen maar urgenter. Vandaag de dag worden mensen op de vlucht immers geconfronteerd met verschillende crises tegelijkertijd. Ten eerste is het in drukbevolkte gemeenschappen of kampen vaak moeilijk om de hygiënische voorschriften en de regels rond afstand houden te respecteren. Daarnaast zagen verschillende landen zich genoodzaakt om de grenzen de sluiten en asielprocedures tijdelijk op te schorten, waardoor het moeilijker werd voor mensen op de vlucht om de nodige hulp te krijgen. Ten slotte zorgt ook de ongeziene economische schok voor banenverlies, waardoor het vaak al schaarse gezinsinkomen nog meer onder druk komt te staan.

[[en]]“As always it is the people left furthest behind that are paying the highest price. For refugees and displacement affected people, it is a crisis that amplifies the crisis they already live through”, states Charlotte Slente in an article published on the website of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). [[nl]]“Zoals altijd zijn het de mensen die het al het moeilijkst hebben, die de hoogste prijs betalen voor de crisis. Voor mensen die slachtoffer zijn van gedwongen ontheemding versterkt de huidige situatie de crisis waar zij voorheen al mee af te rekenen hadden”, stelt Charlotte Slente in een statement gepubliceerd op de website van de Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

[[en]]Mobile School for refugees? [[nl]]Mobiele school voor mensen op de vlucht?

[[en]]“Is Mobile School doing something for refugees?” is a question we hear very often, and the answer is short and simple: “Yes, we are!”[[nl]]“Werkt Mobile School met vluchtelingen?”. Het is een vraag die we maar al te vaak voorgeschoteld krijgen, en het antwoord daarop is kort en simpel: "Ja!"

[[en]]Mobile School collaborates with structural local partner organisations that can guarantee continuous interventions with the mobile school methodology. Some of our local partners in countries such as Greece, Kenya and Germany are actively working with children and families on the move. [[nl]]Mobile School werkt samen met lokale partnerorganisaties die structureel sessies aanbieden met de mobiele school en onze educatieve materialen. Enkele van onze lokale partners in landen als Griekenland, Kenia en Duitsland werken actief met kinderen en families op de vlucht.

[[en]]Last year, Mobile School also explored a partnership with the Turkish organisation Her Yerde Sanat Derneği (HYSD - Art Everywhere Association) based in the city of Mardin, in the southeastern part of the country. Since 2012, HYSD has been organising circus and art workshops for children affected by conflict. The objective of HYSD is to replace the damaged childhood of these children with joy and to enrich their imagination using the magic of social circus. In a country like Turkey, where the Syrian refugee population alone is close to 3.6 million, many children on the move are in need of spaces for creative expression and non-formal learning. [[nl]]Vorig jaar organiseerden we ook een exploratiebezoek bij de Turkse organisatie Her Yerde Sanat Derneği (HYSD – Engelse vertaling: Art Everywhere Association) in de stad Mardin in het zuidoosten van Turkije. Sinds 2012 organiseert HYSD er circus en kunstworkshops voor kinderen die op de vlucht zijn voor de conflicten in de regio. Het doel van HYSD is om de trauma’s van deze kinderen om te buigen met behulp van creatieve expressievormen en hen te laten kennismaken met de magie van sociaal circus. In een land als Turkije, waar alleen al 3,6 miljoen Syrische vluchtelingen opgevangen worden, is er een gigantische nood aan plekken waar kinderen op een creatieve manier kunnen spelen en leren.

[[en]]Preparations for the new mobile school were ongoing, but then corona came… The mobile school materials have already been translated into Turkish and Arabic, but unfortunately it’s still unclear at the moment when HYSD’s mobile school project can be started up. Meanwhile, the team of HYSD is doing everything they can to keep bringing the magic to their target group through online lessons via Messenger and WhatsApp. [[nl]]De voorbereidingen voor de Turkse mobiele school waren in volle gang, maar toen sloeg de coronacrisis toe … Het educatieve materiaal werd met behulp van vrijwilligers vertaald naar het Turks en het Arabisch, maar helaas is het op dit moment nog onduidelijk wanneer de eerste Turkse mobiele school opgestart kan worden. Op dit moment doet het team van HYSD er alles aan om op een creatieve manier in contact te blijven met de doelgroep, door lessen aan te bieden via Messenger en WhatsApp.

[[en]]Today on World Refugee Day, people and organisations celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of people who have been forced to flee their home to escape conflict or persecution. While it is important to protect and improve the lives of refugees every single day, international days like World Refugee Day help to focus global attention on the plight of those fleeing conflict or persecution. As we are currently facing challenging times, it’s crystal clear that Mobile School will keep investing in long-term structural partnerships with organisations that aim to boost the self-esteem and develop the talents of children and young people on the move. [[nl]]Vandaag op Wereldvluchtelingendag nemen mensen en organisaties wereldwijd de tijd om de moed en de veerkracht van mensen op de vlucht in de kijker te zetten. Hoewel het belangrijk is om dagelijks te blijven werken aan duurzame oplossingen, helpt een internationale vluchtelingendag om wereldwijd extra aandacht te krijgen voor de vluchtelingenproblematiek en de nieuwe tendensen. In deze uitdagende tijden is het meer dan ooit duidelijk dat Mobile School ook in de toekomst zal blijven investeren in structurele partnerschappen met organisaties die als doel hebben om de eigenwaarde en de talenten van kinderen en jongeren op de vlucht te versterken.
